Six small deformed apples against black background.

Another one from the unprinted photographs backlog got done this week.

Taken just under three years ago, I did the 10x8 test print for it back then, but somehow never got to doing the actual print until last week. The original test print must have ben done on very old paper and it took a bit more effort to get the grade fine-tuned than when doing it all back to back, but the result is worth it.

As always, the photograph of the photograph doesn’t do the print justice, but the Fomabrom Variant has a lovely texture that suits the image well, and the selenium toner gave it a nice warm feel. The toning is one aspect of any wet print that just can’t be appreciated digitally, as the perceived tone changes depending on the quality of external light from almost pure black in cold light to very warm dark chocolate brown when the light is warm.

There was a very small amount of spotting required to cover up a couple of white dots in the background, but as the tone is a perfect match for the Peerless ivory black dye, it was straight forward. All that is left now, is to sign it and mount it. 🙂

13” x 10” print on Fomabrom Variant 112, developed in bromophen and selenium toned (taken on Fomapan 400 / @200, developed in PyrocatHD); I might do 18” x 14” at some point, though that would take the apples above their actual size.
