Inaugural SNAP Meet
I went to Inverness over the weekend, for the inaugural SNAP meeting held at the Inverness Darkroom on Saturday. Matt and myself were a bit concerned if enough people would turn up, but we needn’t to worry — almost thirty folk came from all over Scotland (indeed someone came all the way from Orkney!).
Matt and myself envisaged an organic meet of shared work and conversation, and that is exactly what we got. There was a broad variety of work on display (traditional B&W, platinum, wet collodion and calotype, polaroid, cine, cyanotype; landscapes and street as well as abstract and conceptual work) and it was most fortunate that Matt got us into the old gymnasium, for it was about the the right size for us, and it is a nice naturally bright space, which makes so much difference when looking at prints, particularly B&W.
It was great to meet so many different people passionate about analogue photography, to talk to them about their individual interests and to see their work in the flesh, so to speak. It confirmed to me that our inkling that there was a need and desire for this type of opportunity was right, so we shall carry on.
The intention with SNAP has been from the outset to move the meet about Scotland, to make it more accessible to a greater number of people in different parts of the country. The next meeting will be further south in the autumn, most likely Stirling or Perth, but the details are still to be worked out. Maybe see you there in the autumn!
